Comedy to Shatter Stigma About Mental Health
Along with PTSD Parent, Kelly Wilson is co-founder of Mental Health at the Mic in Portland, Oregon, a community of performers who use comedy to reduce stigma and give people with mental health challenges a powerful voice. In other words, we shatter stigma one joke at a time.
This program teaches stand up comedy to those whose lives have been touched by mental illness. Our groups of comedians perform clean comedy throughout the Portland metro area and the Pacific Northwest, bringing education and inspiration to a wide range of audiences.
Writing and Performing Stand Up Comedy
Kelly Wilson is a performer and instructor with Mental Health at the Mic. She teaches people with mental illness how to write and perform stand up comedy for audiences of all ages. Comedy classes run throughout the year and can be designed to meet the needs of students of all ages.
Groups of experienced comics are also available to perform for a variety of causes. They perform clean comedy and have entertained audiences of all ages in a wide range of venues, including churches, community centers, libraries, comedy clubs, schools, and hospitals. Our group has been featured at fundraisers, corporate and community events, professional and mental health conferences, and private parties.
